Blogging after a very long time ... This morning at around 7:30 in the train, my thoughts drifted to something which has become part and parcel of my life, unwantedly. The 'RACE' has begun. Everyone is competing for placement, power and marks and what not. A completely different feeling where I come from - a commerce college, where only competition was to get the girls :-) .. And when I look back at those days, I miss them dearly.
The main difference being that, even though we competed for the same girl, we still were friends and always together... and when the time came to make a choice, ironically we always chose our friends over the girl .. Here in the more 'CIVILISED and MATURED' MBA college, the focus seems to be more on the things that you are competing for, rather than enjoying the competition itself. I personally have enjoyed the process of competing more than the end result of the competition. Probably the reason being that the process of competing lasts for a longer time than the result, and consequently I have learnt to stay happy for a longer period of time :-D ..
What surprises me is that in BCom the people seemed to have a long term perspective than the people here in the professional institution. Here, we seem to be caring more about the corporate rather than the students and our colleagues here, without realizing that after we pass out, we will be dealing with our colleagues in future and not with these corporate. The point is that we are not going to be working for the same company for our life time. A time would come when we would want to switch a job or probably a career. And it would be our colleagues in the college and not the corporate who will be helping us to make this switch. We will not have the luxury to go to the companies and 'PITCH' for ourselves. Therefore, I would like to add one more objective for joining an MBA college and probably the most important one at that - TO MAKE FRIENDS. It makes more sense to maintain better relations with the students rather than corporate, which cannot be done when students are forced to do a few things which they do not want to.
A few coveted colleges in the city have reached their position by looking after their students, in the time of the need, and not by looking after the companies. Probably it has helped them build a strong alumni base as well. The recent example being promotion of entrepreneurship by JBIMS, which does not even have the word 'ENTREPRENEURSHIP' in its name :-P ...
Ultimately I have figured out that it is the attitude that matters more than the college. And I believe that is what companies seek as well. They want competition inside the organization. I would prefer to become an MBA student who would make a CEO insecure about his job and force him to update his skills and knowledge, rather than becoming a manager in his company by sucking up to him.
Well, this is what just the 1st semester has taught me ...NOW would All ya Doctors and CAs still dare to say MBA is theoretical :-p .. I have my share of differences with others, but I still love my life and the college ... And I am very sure that we will see the light not at the end of the 2 year tunnel ... but somewhere in between ... And I hope its sooner rather than later..

Superb dude!
Whatever you said is perfectly truth which I have also felt in my BCOM life.
It is a time to be the LIGHT rather than waiting for somebody to take the initiative.
:-D ..lets just hope that people accept the light and do not continue to live in darkness :-D
But I think to accept the light, you should have that sight. Because in Mahabhaarat, Krishna expressed 'Vishwaroop' but none other than Arjuna could see it as he has got that sight.
Let's hope that we people have got the same!!!
hmmm :-D
Anagh, on first count B-schools is a very ugly place where we compete and thats a fact. However if you ask me at a personal level, even I enjoy the process more than the eventuality. There is need to redefine lots of things.
sahi hai dost, jitna bhi samajh me aaya wo sahi laga
gd job!!
thts for sure only ur attitude towards ur work vl tke u to d path of success.
Hey .Anagh..Reading your blog was actually interesting..It is a bitter truth that we are giving more importance to corporate and not students..But on the other side, Taali sirf ek haath se nahi bajti..Now since we know wats d prob is we shld drive to solve it by coming together..I have personally felt that in our institute, there is av very little or no respect for the people who have an work experience..Everyone feels that he is the master of d universe..i m trying my level best to change dis mindset, irrespective of wat people think about me..i hope evn u will give me a support to change the whole attiude and perspectiveof our collegeus..
Overall, dis was cool..keep it up..
lovely
Nice one dude!!!
i saw a movie long back.it was ALI G IN DA HOUSE..it ws a total timepass/nonsense type movie but had a strong messege in it.the protagonist believed in a punch line"keep it real"..i like it.i think that most people here fake in all ways, always trying to be someone else, someone who they are actually not.and in this whole process they forget the real thing that they are here for individual development,to get education and now they they are doing everything except this.if everyone just focusses his/her head on just one thing for rest 1.5 years i.e to learn and to learn more they'll reach toplaces even they would'nt have thought of themselves.the competition has not to be outside but within.you cant control anyone else's learning but you definitely can your's and take it to a different level..i think mai bhavuk ho chuka hu to i'll cut right now..
@Tushar:
bro how did you come to know that people inour college dont have respect for work-ex people?any thing substantial or is it only ur perception?i guess its the latter only coz if some people dont give respect to workex people then they are at wrong thought process because such people command respect out of the simple fact that they have seen life more than freshers, with no comparison being done to competitive skills of either.and if some people dont realise it and keep on having same disrespectful type thinking, then one should not even bother about them.maybe they are too young.just as karthik said"you need not like, but you must respect someones differences"...and what i say is that when people do/say bad things to you feel good within coz they are insecure of you..and for you, some people might make out jokes on ur expense but bhai the fact is that you have one of the strongest resume in our batch and they all get their tails between their legs when they recall this fact.and only bad thing here is that instead of rising to your level, they try to drag you down.just ignore them.they'r not worth your time and attention.
hey anagh..vry gud work...its soo true...i also say tht process of competing is much betr..n if v dnt work towards building friendship now..thn 1 day after 2 years when we realize our mistake ..the time vl b gone and v vl surely miss all this..
Hi bro .... wonderful thoughts and as pointed out by Dinesh it is indeed the bitter truth ..... Coming to your perspective about ATTITUDE ... I Couldn't agree more ! This is something even I believe in .... Just a thought from my side "Attitude is more important then Aptitude to reach high Altitude" ..... I am sure if all of us come up with right attitude then we ll sure take SIMSREE to higher altitude !!! :)
Cheers !!!
hey anagh... beautiful blog.. n very true..hope ev1 reads up on this n gets some inspiration..but it is a fact that competition exists at every stage be it mba life or work life.. yet alongside this competition we should learn to respect others opinions, priorities and nurture a level of bonding amongst ourselves..after all our batch mates are going to be our colleagues 2mrw..and it is these relationships which are sure to influence us maybe a few days, months or years further on ... in some way or the other..everyone should realise this..
gr888 work buddy :)
Hey .. thanks everyone for readin the post :-D ...
Competition is must for ensuring that u do ur best ... However, we need to realise that this is not a race.. its more like a strategic game like a chess ... We need to think from a long term perspective ... As Karthik had pointed out the difference between the job and the career other day ... Corporate can help us to get a job .. But its other students .. who will prove to be instrumental in building our career..
heyy dude awesome stuff.. infact its so true..as u mentioned karthik,,dat day i realised that we long ago stopped having fun with our batch as a whole..evryone is in a race for something!! n most importantly this mite be the last time most of us are attending college..our life as students shall end in two years..we need to make the most of it!!
Hey simply superb!!!!!!!!!!
good job dude
Ya anagh. it's only corporates/ placements that v talk abt in college whether it's forcefully attending lectures/ Guest lectures. I guess, v hv lots 2 enjoy apart from sending chain mails, indulging in politics n doing a finger pointing exercise.
